This article is about typology of leisure. Generally speaking, most studies on types of leisure are merely kinds of taxonomy. Many researchers have tried to accumulate facts, test their reliability and sort them into identifiable patterns. Nevertheless, such types are like pre-Darwinian orderings of the biological universe in terms of phenotypic characteristics. As a result, objectivism, subjectivism and careless mixing of both have prevailed in leisure studies. Therefore this article is aim to construct types of leisure to sublate those problems. Here, I suggest four ideal types of leisure that are reconstructed according to Max Weber\'s principles of ideal type: acquisitive, consumptive, escape and degenerative.
